Dimensions Weight Chat Help

Welcome to Dimensions Weight Chat! This page explains the basics of our chat system, and how to take advantage of all of its features.

The Chat Console
Below is the main chat console. You should see this console whenever you are in chat.

Noise Reduction

Sending Messages
To send a message to the room, type it into the text box and press ENTER or click the button. To send a private message, select the chatter's name from the 'Private to...' pull-down list before sending your message.

Jumping Chatrooms
The pull-down menu labeled 'Jump to...' allows you to jump to a different chatroom. To jump, select the chatroom you'd like to jump to from the menu and hit the button. Note: The administrator may impose a delay between all jumps if jumping gets out of hand.

Navigation
The navigation buttons perform the following tasks:
  • Help - Brings up this screen
  • Options - Brings up the options box allowing you to change your color, style, picture, ignore list, etc
  • Who's On - Displays the list of who's chatting where
  • Logout - Logs you out of the chatroom and returns you to the main menu
  • Refresh - Refresh all messages. Also restarts the real-time chatscreen
  • Profile - Allows you to enter or edit your profile (personal info)
Ignoring Users
In the case that you should need to ignore someone, you can ignore multiple people by typing their handles in separated by commas.

Displaying Pictures
If you would like to display a picture on the picture sidebar, you may upload one from your desktop by clicking 'Options' and then 'Upload. Images are limited to 100k in size and must be a .jpg or .gif file. If you already have a picture on the internet, you can type the URL to the image in the Image URL box of the Options pop-up.

Commandline Tools
WebConference supports many command-line functions. A command-line function is a command that you type directly into the message box before sending your post. The command is then interpreted to do whatever it's supposed to do. Currently, the following commands are supported:

/me Allows you to post a message as an action. For example:
  /me says hello
Would result in the following output if your handle was 'Bob':
  * Bob says hello

/whois Will display a user's profile; for example:
  /whois bob
Would display the profile Bob created for himself.

/laston Will display the last time a user has chatted. For example:
  /laston bob

/memo Allows you to send a memo to a user who is not presently online. When the user comes online, they will be notified of their waiting memo, and given instructions on how to view it. To send a memo, type /memo recipient; message for example:
/memo bob; hi bob sorry I missed you! Call me later.
Make sure you put a semicolon after the chatter's username.

/msg Allows you to send a private message to a chatter without using the pulldown list For example:
/msg bob; Are you going to be on later?

Emoticons
Emoticons are icons that represent your mood or are used for fun. At Dimensions, of course, we added some food icons as well. The following characters will result in creating a graphic...
